Improve Your Health Today -Just 3 Simple Steps

Can I tell you a secret?

When I first started working with clients as a Holistic Health Coach and Personal Fitness Trainer, amazing people would come to me wanting to make their health and wellness a big priority in their life.

They were sick and tired of feeling less than amazing and they were pretty damn confused about who to listen to for advice.

Upon speaking with them, almost immediately I began to realize the secret that I want to share with you today…

Here it is:  Most of us already know what we need to be doing to improve our health!

Let’s be real here.  There is a lot of information (and mis-information) when it comes to the foods we eat. All you have to do is take one stroll down the aisle at Barnes & Noble in the ‘diet’ or ‘health’ section and it can be pretty overwhelming.

It can literally overload your brain.

The truth is, when it comes right down to it, we truly already know the basic things we should be doing to improve our health and wellness.

When I ask my clients, “What are three things you think you could be doing to improve your health today?,” I get similar answers to these each and every time:

Be more active.
Stop eating _______ or stop drinking ________ (or stop smoking!).
Eat more vegetables.

That’s actually good news, because we intuitively know how to make ourselves well.
Woot woot!

What happens most of the time when we set health and wellness goals, though?
We set our goals and then we usually stick to 100% for about 2-3 weeks. Then we become discouraged because we don't see bigger results and then either "fall off the wagon", give up completely, or think it that this particular diet isn't working and starting looking for the next best thing.

This is where we fall apart.  Believe me, I know… I have done it, too.  I still do sometimes.
Even though I’m a health coach, I’m still human. There are days that I get so busy that I don’t exercise and get my butt moving, like I know I should.

That’s the area where I fall short most times and where I receive a little bit of love and support from my health coach and friends, who helps to keep me on track.

So what can You do to Improve Your Health Today in 3 Simple Steps?

1.   Pull out your Journal.

For the next week, I’d like you to think about and put pen to paper about any obstacles that may stopping you from living your healthiest life.

Think about it… Journal about it… Reflect on it.

Clarity is key, so write it all down.

 2.   Come up with a Plan.

Once you’ve identified any obstacles that could be standing in your way, which may be that you work long hours and cooking a healthy meal seems too time-consuming or maybe you feel that the price of healthy food is too high or perhaps you will discover that you aren’t sure if you really deserve to feel amazing, it’s time to come up with a realistic Plan.

Knowing your obstacles, habits and patterns will help you figure out how to work around them.

Pick one (yes, only one) Action Step that you can begin doing today in order to get you moving forward towards your health and wellness goals.

Write it down in your journal and put that one thing on a piece of paper or a Post-It note.

Keep it beside your bed so that you see it at night before you go to bed and in the morning when you wake up.

Post it on the steering wheel of your car to remind you of your one easy step you are taking towards making your goals come true.

It could be anything from, I am replacing soda this week with clean spring water with lemon or lime squeezed into it or I’m going to go for a nice walk three times this week, even if it’s only around the block, or I am going to pick one easy whole foods (real food) recipe and make it this week.

Take action now.  Momentum is the key to success.  Keep moving forward.

Once you have decided what you are going to do, get up and get going!

3.  Get Support now.

Whatever that looks like to you… Friends, family, hiring a Health Coach or other professional, join a support group on Facebook, doing an eCourse…

The point is, find someone or a bunch of someones to help support you to make the changes in your life that you desire so that you will succeed.

The point is, find someone or a bunch of someones to help support you to make the changes in your life that you desire so that you will succeed.

You are truly worth it.

Once you have followed through and mastered the first Action Step that you came up with, first, take time to celebrate your success and acknowledge yourself for your accomplishment, and second, revisit the list of obstacles in your Journal and come up with a new Action Step to take to keep your momentum going.  You can do it!

I would love to hear your comments below.

Tell me what is stopping you and let’s work it out together.
