How to think more positively
NEURONS THAT FIRE TOGETHER WIRE TOGETHER
When we look at our beliefs, mentalities, habits, and daily actions it’s likely we’ll find some that don’t serve us. You know, that naggy voice in your head; she sounds like you, but instead of cheering you on from the sidelines, she prefers to talk sh*t about you not being good enough, smart enough, rich enough etc… Sound familiar?
Well, the good news is that thanks to the magic that is our brain, we can consciously work on changing those old thought, belief and habit patterns. Cool right?
SO HOW DOES IT WORK?
Imagine every day you take the same path to work - you do this without thinking about it, you walk the streets in a half-dazed state not really stopping to think about what you’re doing or where you’re going - this is basically what our brain does every time we have a negative thought. Your brain is simply following the same path that it has always followed.
IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY!
You can rewire or redirect your brain to new more positive ways of thinking! The brain is always working to do this but sometimes it needs a little help.
That’s where you come in.
Neuroplasticity is the brain’s way of re-organising itself in order to form new neural pathways or connections. Throughout your entire life, your brain is working on creating these little pathways - like your very own self-development guru dancing around inside your head to help you think more positively and bust through blocks and limiting beliefs - sometimes that guru needs a guiding hand.
Think about it - things we do often we become stronger at, and things we don't fade away. The more we walk a certain path, the more likely we are to walk it the next time.
HERE’S MY PROVEN PROTOCOL FOR LEARNING TO WALK THE MORE POSITIVE ROUTE:
STEP ONE: FOCUS ON THE W’S
1. Who - who am I around that stops me overcoming it / changing myself?
2. What - what is the belief?
3. Where - where does it happen?
4. When - when does it happen?
5. Why - why am I doing it?
STEP TWO: REWIRE OLD PATTERNS
Now, you've recognised your 5 W’s, what can you do to shift or pivot your thinking and re-wire your neural pathways to think differently. What is the new belief? What is the new more empowering thought that you want to think and then ultimately believe (a belief is just a thought that you have practiced over and over).
STEP THREE: WALK THAT POSITIVE PATH BABY
Keep a close eye on your thoughts and when they want to go ‘there’ - capture them, feel them, and then choose to pivot (change them by thinking a new more empowering thought).
1. Affirm your new belief daily. Repetition rewires the brain. Repeat - believe - repeat.
2. Tap on those new beliefs daily. EFT is a game-changer trust me (Learn more about EFT HERE).
3. Make gratitude your attitude - it’s been shown that there are multiple benefits to practising gratitude daily - including rewiring your brain.
STEP FOUR: INSPIRE OTHERS TO DO THE SAME
